There was a LOT going on in this book, that I sometimes questioned exactly which direction the author wanted to take it. We first meet Rose and Liam when they are just 16 years old. Both clearly had troubled homes but they seemed to compliment each other. Then we fast-forward ten years and Liam now calls himself Black and we learn he's a contract killer. Rose has clearly hit rock bottom as a drug addict, although the reasons why were not what you'd think. Rose doesn't remember Black at first but slowly, the past comes back. Now, here comes all the jumbled storylines. We have Black, who's now uber moody, alpha and a man of few words and no emotions. An shady MC club that's intertwined into the mix, babies, drugs, danger, drama, angst. I had multiple issues with character development. Black is painted as unemotional yet has many scenes where he says or does contradictory things that just didn't fit. The editing needs a LOT of work as I highlighted at least a dozen issues that became a distraction. The ending was a cliffy but not near enough to suck me in to the next book. I felt this book had potential but just needs to be polished.Tags : Black - Kindle edition by T.L Smith. Was this book intense? Very much so. Was it heartbreaking? Definitely. Was it hard to read? Absolutely. Did I still love it? YES. Why? Because even though I read this series a year or more ago, it has stayed with me. The fact that everything happened the way it did was so overwhelmingly heartbreaking, it shattered me. The author wrote this book and it claimed me. I was driven to tears when I understood the sequence of events that took place which led to what happened to her. How could he have not know? How could he have done that, even without knowing it was her? This book has taught me that you should take nothing for granted and you should open your eyes and actually see. Investigate with your heart, soul and mind. Do not take the cowards way out and do not let the "job" become so much of an everyday thing that you don't see what is right in front of your face. Loved it...not for the violence, but for the fact that life is heartbreaking sometimes, but it's real and this author made this book come to life for me. Great series. If you stay with this book, it might be the one of the best series you have ever read.
I really liked the storyline. It was a very interesting read that was action packed. The main issue for me was the amount of grammatical errors, missing words or wrong words used. That became rather annoying and definitely took away from the book. Also parts were confusing regarding how much time had passed in between certain scenes and what exactly was happening. Aside from those issues I did like the book enough to continue on to the next book to see what happens. I do like Black and Rose's character so I'm curious to see how the book continues.
The writing of this story is so poor that I could not finish it. I tried, believe me, but I just couldn't do it. Aside from the blatant misogyny in the description and an archetypal misogynist "bad boy" main character, the whole thing was just bad. Sentence structure was rarely varied, and paragraphs tended to be a composition of short, choppy sentences that read more like a series of Tweets than a story. Additionally, the dialogue was stinted and unnatural. I do not understand how this story has garnered so many positive reviews. I've read my share of not so good novels, but this one takes the cake.
Black is sort of a second chance romance, mixed with suspense, and wrapped in a blanket of darkness. Black is actually a contract killer for hire. He wasn’t always a killer but a rough childhood conditioned him into what he is now. When at a local motorcycle club that he often does jobs for, Black comes across a one of the club’s prostitutes who’s completely doped up out of her mind. He immediately recognizes her as the girl he fell in love with back when he was a teenager. The girl who was there one moment and then disappeared without a trace. He has no idea how she got to where she is but he can’t just leave here there. So, he kidnaps her away from the club, gets her sober, and sends her on her way to get her life back in order. However, their past and future are intertwined by more than just a chance encounter and pretty soon Black and Rose have a whole motorcycle club banging on their doors looking for retribution.
Every once in a while I like to switch it up and dive into something a little dark. I just can’t take bubbly characters or happily ever afters book after book. So, I was really excited when I saw this book was free. It sounded good and has a great cover. However, that’s kind of where it all ends. I had a hard time getting into the story at first because I wasn’t a fan of the writing. There was no feeling behind what I was reading. It was as if I was reading someones journal or something. It was very disjointed and there was a lot of telling and not showing. It all just seemed superficial to me.
This story could have been better if there weren’t so many grammatical errors. There were missing words, sentences that didn’t make any sense, and times when names were used to address the wrong character. I can usually overlook these things when it’s an ARC because those haven’t been fully edited or released to the public yet. However, this book has been out for over a year and a half and it’s saturated in errors. I would be horribly upset if I paid $4 (current price for the ebook) and got what I just read.
As a whole, this story is interesting and has so much potential, but it just fell so flat. I feel like I just read someones summary of the book instead of the actual story. Not to mention that it definitely needs a good scrub down from an editor before it should be listed for sale again. While the book ends on a cliffhanger, I have no desire or drive to read the next book. I don’t see the need for the cliffhanger and felt like the story would have been fine if it ended without that little tidbit.
