Stars in Your Eyes de Piaget Family Lynn Kurland 9780515156157 Books

This is one of Lynn Kurland’s book that is hard to review because I loved the ending but not the beginning. It starts slow. I think the first five or six chapters are each character in his or her own world. And then there is the obligatory freaking out about time travel. The problem with time travel is that people complain if people do not freak out or if there’s too much time devoted to the character’s meltdown. The other thing that I found difficult about the first part of the book is the repeated theme that Imogen’s parents are driven and that her siblings are emotionally abusive. All of that is okay, but I don’t “get” her getting a Ph.D. is success; most Ph.Ds. in this day and age struggle with two non-tenure jobs and wish longingly for a full-time job with health care. Anyhow, there is too much parents and way, way too much Prissy. My other pet peeve is the stalker villain, who is necessary to the plot at the end.

Unlike other reviews, I felt the story did pick up about 60% of the way through the story when each of them began to consider being without the other. It was not lust to love. It was a gentle awakening that they did not want to be apart. I liked how each tried (and did) help each other out. I was glad that she finally stood up to her parents and chose her own path. The last part of the book reminded me of what I love about Lynn Kurland stories—a gentle love growing.

Characters from the past were featured in small cameos. For me, as a fan of the past books, I liked the inclusion of past characters, and I did not think that they were overdone or detracted from the story.

Stars in Your Eyes de Piaget Family Lynn Kurland 9780515156157 Books Reviews

I have read many of her books and enjoyed most of them. I should have read the review first, but I wanted this book to be one of the good ones- It was not. It could have been, but I guess the author got tired of writing. No involved story, no real conversations or chemistry between the characters, no energy. Just get a sword and go home- blah. I used to complain that the author needed to work on book to book continuity- now I just don't care.
Horrible. No romance at all between the main characters. They barely spoke to each other and we are supposed to believe they fall in love???!!! How?? There was no real interaction! Over half way into the book they hadn't even had a decent conversation!

I love Kurland's earlier efforts and am always so excited about her books but between this one and the last one where the two characters were on the edge of bawling the entire time have put me off.

There's no excitement or romance anymore. Phillip deserved so much better than this lackluster book 😣
I love all of Lynn Kurland's books and I have been waiting for this book for a long time. I hate to say it but it was not as good as I all her previous books. The pace was slow, all the heroine could think was to get back, not much interaction between the two characters. Maybe this was just a one time miss, so I will still give her a chance and buy her next book.
I have loved Lynn Kurland books since first reading Star of the morning. She has great Heros.. This book was just lacking in substance. Not much romance, how about a few kisses please. Plus Imogene is weak and I don't like that in our leading ladies. She lets her family bully her. Several unanswered questions with some of the characters. I just felt let down at the end. Got the impression that this story was thrown together in a hurry. Disappointed, but glad Phillip got his girl.
I wish I could give it more stars, and even three is pushing it. I've been a fan of her series for a long time, the charectors and story lines of her books are unforgettable. This one is forgettable. Halfway through I'm still waiting for the romance, adventure and story to begin. No chemistry at all, how did they fall in love? Not a clue. They barely spoke, just gave each other moon-eyes. Imogene is so wishy-washy, scared of her sibling that really don't have part of the story. When she just resigns herself to her fate, you gotta wonder about her brain-cells. I did enjoy the cameo appearance of people from her past books, but again, it couldn't rescue this story. I will continue to purchase Lynn Kurland novels, hoping for the best.
I have read everything Kurland has written, and really enjoyed most of her books. This one? Huge disappointment. More than half of the book seems devoted to this 'spinning in place' - Kurland devotes untold pages to Imogen repeatedly asking herself if it's possible she's traveled through time, and even after she has clear evidence, she repeats the process several more times. Useless, frustrating filler. When the plot finally moves, instead of being shown something, we're told about it. There's an 'explosion' when Imogen grabs Rhy's sword - but that's all we know about it. In other books, there is a vivid description of whatever the character experiences. Not here. Phillip is an enjoyable character, and seems more three-dimensional than Imogen. There is a vague villain (Heather's brother Robert) lurking, but not seen, and again his scenes are 'told about' rather than 'shown.' Even Phillip's battle happens 'off stage' so, again, we're told about it. There are some glimmers of interesting books in the works - Nick and Jennifer's young twins, Jake and Amanda's Jackson IV and Rose. The sections of the book involving those characters are among the most enjoyable. Definitely don't buy this book, get it from the library if you feel you must read it.
I have read all of Lynn Kurland's books. They are normally a fun escape. However this book can be summed up by both main characters saying "best not think about it", whatever it is at the time. The hero was the weakest I have ever read and he was Robin's eldest. When he wasn't avoiding thinking, running around in circles, or stumbling over conversation, he was passing out. He passes out when he sees a phone and the next day he is in the future running internet searches like a pro. At the 50 % point of the book both main characters were still avoiding figuring where and when they were.

This book had awful character development. It did have some mean pranks played and the twins, Theo and Sam, were entertaining, but the main characters were aggravating and weak.
