As always Kresley Cole delivers her new spin-off is off to a fine start. As per her way the alpha hero is a mix of the anti-hero and the self sacrifing and misunderstood male. Drawn from a dark, lonely existence, in the course of fulfilling a duty he has never wavered, he finds himself drawn to the chamber of a female who mistakes him for another, the male she is desperate to seduce despite her inexperience and his reluctance, instead under the cover of darkness she has an erotic encounter with the very male sent to dispatch a deadly punishment to the very same male who knowing violated strict Dacian ( a sect of reclusive vampires of the Lore believed by a majority to be a mythological race. None has ever lived to tell the tale of actually observing a Dacian vampire, nor has any been ever to pin the location of their magnificent kingdom.. as an enforcer the Dacian is sworn to track and dispatch any threat that would expose his realm and remain an unseen and nebulous force inexorable in his pursuit. Perplexed by his reaction to the female and shocked by his thoughts of mitigating Dacian precepts he sets his formidable prowess and deadly precision in entering high profile tournament of sorts-- Shadow's Claiming. Can an uncloaked male shrouded in the shifting mists of Dacia find his way home, claiming his enigmatic bride, as the superficial disparities are stripped and longing and vulnerability are exposed will the pure blood prince and a mixed faction royal princess-- a fiercely loyal sorceress powerless against he demons claim the happiness which has eluded them both? note: try to read K.K.'s Lothaire in her long running saga of the Lore - kind and its many factions. This book is excellent, and will give you much needed insight into the esoteric Dacians. It will greatly enhance the reading value and pleasure derived by this another Dacian novels. Most readers will be familiar with the concepts of the Horde and the Forbearer ( please excuse any spelling error or circuitous descriptives as I am operating from memory and disposed to Tip of the Tongue Syndrome on occasions such as this, tolerances graciously accepted.) Gena Show alter is another author of similar talents and verisimilitude as Ms. Kole, they appear to be rather particular colleges, as is perhaps Ms. Karen Marie Morning. That said I cannot recommend her work highly enough. I admit to being an honorary Morning Maniac, if you love Kole, Showalter, Harkness, Juliet Dark or the Merry Gentry series by L.K.Hamilton do yourself the favor of meeting Adam Black, the McKeltar clan druids, Concern Brody and then tackle the Fever series for a taste of dark urban fantasy/ romance in the portal/ tuatha de Danaa- dark vs. light court without all the trite contrivance-plus so much more. I might as well go out and give a nod to L. Ione. Her Daemonica and Riders of the Apocalypse series' are another of my top shelf picks. I mention all this because I believe it will appeal to a good % of fans reading this review. I know I would and do benefit from the suggestions of like minded readers. Has anyone heard of S. Kenyons' Dark Hunter and Chronicles of Nick found big screen? Out a that loop Sam I am digressing, and on that tangential vein... H. D. did not Fall to despair- - he ( Mr. Dumpty ) was pushed... Enjoy!!-

Shadow Claim Immortals After Dark The Dacians edition by Kresley Cole Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Trehan Daciano is the sexiest, most provocative hero of this series. With his quiet, stealth like strength and intensity, he is my all time favorite IAD hero followed by Sebastian, Malkom and Conrad. Trehan's unwavering devotion to his simpering, much too young bride was intense and electrifying. Aside from being impossibly strong and exact, this conscientious, astute assassin wins Bettina's heart as well as mine. The Sylph had great wisdom to impart and hilarious lines. And did he just **** Morgana? Only time will tell. Am I the only one who hopes his story is told? Then, there's a little bit of Nix... who doesn't love Nucking Futts. Wish there had been just a little more of her. There were issues with this book for me that almost kept me from giving it 5 stars such as Bettina's capricious and gullible behavior. I had to keep reminding myself that she was 'young'. I didn't like that Trehan was bested by that crack head Lothaire, (to get past it, I had to create my own sub story line as to why that happened), nor did I appreciate Trehan giving away something very valuable for the 'chance' to convince Bettina. With his speed alone he could have captured Morgana's hands behind her back and traced her to a hell plane where her powers didn't work, demanded her promise to not ever screw with him or his! before tracing her back to Abaddon. But to just give away the weapon, well... Or how Cas was certain of losing his life to The Shadow in the beginning and then poo-pooed Daciano's prowess before supposedly figuring out how to defeat him. And this one almost made me burn the book; what got into Kresley to have Bettina hand Trehan his balls in a bag? How dare he grovel and beg for his behavior. Apologize for a misunderstanding but beg? Puh-leeze. He had nothing to beg about. But Cole had Bettina winning with the upper hand in the end. So wrong. But, I guess those things didn't bother me enough to stop me from reading the book at least five times already and I know I will read it again. Trehan Daciano, I think I knew him (or hope to know him) in another life! Definitely for me one of Cole's best!
I couldn't get into this book or these characters. Part of my review score is pure personal preference - if the author is trying to get me into another world-type fantasy, don't mix in non-essential details from our actual world. I thought the book would have been stronger without the references to deadmau5, without Bettina's experience in the mortal world, without Salem's cockney accent. It was distracting and caused a lot of dissonance for me as I was trying to imagine Cole's Abaddon world and Dacia.
All in all, there was inconsistencies through the story that kept pulling my attention away and I didn't identify with any of the characters. Bettina was frustrating, Trehan was too hot-or-cold, either annoyingly devoted or disinterested.
Anyway, it just wasn't really a right fit for me.
